River Don Fish Easement

Another weir found on the Calder system preventing fish from migrating to the upper tributaries where they like to spawn.  This weir was located at Cockden Bridge on Todmorden Road near Briercliffe, Burnley, and the project was funded by the Environment Agency.

The river water was diverted down a large pipe along the edge of the channel and a series of small concrete weirs were constructed.

Rather than having a huge jump that most fish could not clear, they now have a series of smaller steps which makes migration possible for all species of fish, even in low flow conditions.
